How to Unpack After Moving to a New Home
Moving is stressful. It takes weeks or even months to finalise all of your plans. And then there’s the packing, transporting and unpacking again of every worldly possession that you own. Sometimes, it seems like it might be easier just to walk away from everything and start over fresh without having to pack and unpack.
‘Seems’ is the operative word there. Packing and unpacking are unfortunate necessities of moving house. But the good news is that Adlam Transport can help take some of the hassle out of moving. Our experienced team of removalists can assist with all aspects of your move – from the initial packing to the transport and even some of the unpacking at your new place.
We specialise in making big moves as painless as possible. But there’s no denying that you’ll have to do at least some of the unpacking on your own. With that in mind, we’re providing you with some of our top tips for how to unpack after moving to a new house.
Our Top Unpacking Tips
- Don’t delay: You don’t have to like unpacking, but you still have to do it. Putting off the inevitable is going to create problems for you down the road. The longer you wait, the easier it is going to be to continue putting it off – to the extent that you may never find yourself entirely moved in. Getting started right away doesn’t mean you have to unpack all at once. But you’re best-off doing some work on this every day and setting yourself a firm date on which you intend to be finished.
- Start big: This is an area in which we have lots of experience. You always want to begin with the biggest pieces of furniture. The beds, sofas, tables and chairs should all be moved into their respective positions before you even begin to think about the smaller stuff. Furthermore, arranging your wardrobes, armoires, chests of drawers and other storage units first ensures that you’ll have a place to store all of the smaller items when you unpack them later.
- Prioritise ‘useful’ items: You’ve probably heard of the saying, ‘Form over function’. Well throw that out the window in this case. When you’re unpacking after moving into a new house, you’ll want to begin with all of the functional items that you’ll need to live and work on a daily basis. Start with the items that make your day-to-day life possible, and then move on to less functional items such as decorations.
