A Guide To Dangerous Goods

Blog / A Guide To Dangerous Goods

Moving house and transporting certain goods, local and interstate, can be somewhat complicated. At Adlam Transport we try to make your move as stress free and simple as possible, arming you with all the info you need to help you prepare. We have put together a list of what cannot be transported (Dangerous Goods) and the ‘grey area’ items that MAY NOT be eligible for transportation. For those that fall into this grey area, please contact us direct and we can set you straight!

Plants & Animals – Grey Area

Pests and diseases can be found in many plants and animals, therefore we may not be able to move them for you. Australian quarantine rules are some of the strictest in the world, for both international and domestic travel. Each state has different rules stating what cannot be transported across borders. It is important to check the rules of the state you are moving to. You can contact us direct for more information, or refer to the following website for more information. http://www.interstatequarantine.org.au/

Transporting animals is also a specialist area. We recommend Jet Pets for moving your pet family member.

Liquids

Open liquids can cause havoc when being transported as they are liable to spillage which can ruin furniture. For this reason we cannot transport open liquids. This includes items like cooking oils, laundry detergents, and alcohol.

Dangerous & Explosive Goods (Governed by the Dangerous Goods Act 1985)

Anything flammable is categorised as dangerous goods and cannot be transported. These items include:

  • Cleaning Solvents
  • Petrol
  • Oil
  • Aerosol Cans
  • Matches
  • Paint
  • Methylated Sprits
  • Weed Killers
  • Fertilisers
  • Car Batteries
  • Pool Chemicals
  • Household Cleaning Products
  • BBQ Gas Cylinders

It is important to empty out fuel from items such as lawnmowers, and any sharp items like hedge trimmers, chainsaws, garden-rakes will need to be wrapped up and packed carefully – please contact us for help with these items.

If you are unsure if your item can be transported, or need some advice, please contact the Adlam Transport team and we will be happy to help you.
